IDEA, the well-known fitness association and owner of one of the fitness industry’s largest Convention and Trade Shows, has been sold to Active Interest Media (AIM) - one of the world's largest business-to-business media companies.

AIM produces websites, magazines, films and TV shows, and consumer and trade events.  The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Founded in 1982 by Peter and Kathy Davis, IDEA Health & Fitness Association holds several major events a year, including the annual IDEA World Convention. Peter Davis will transition to a leadership role with AIM, overseeing the integration of both companies. Kathie Davis will also continue in an advisory role for IDEA.

The software and technology arm of IDEA, including ClubConnect and CoursePlus, were not included in this transaction and will operate under new brand Inspire360.

“Peter, Kathie and their team have created a remarkable company that has played a key role in building the modern-day fitness industry," Andy Clurman, president and CEO of Active Interest, said in the release.

"We've long admired AIM's leadership in the consumer and B2B enthusiast space, and have talked for years about the best way to join forces and inspire the world to fitness together," said Peter Davis.
