Privacy Policy

The Association of Fitness Studios (AFS) takes your privacy seriously. Please read the following to learn more about our privacy policy.

What This Policy Covers

This policy covers how AFS treats personal information that AFS collects and receives, including information related to your use of AFS websites, products and services ("the Service"). Personal information is information about you or your business that is personally identifiable like your name, address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.

This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that AFS does not own or control, or to people that AFS does not employ or manage.

Information Use and Collection

AFS collects business and personal information when you register with AFS, when you use AFS products or services, when you visit AFS pages or the pages of certain AFS partners, and when you enter AFS promotions or sweepstakes. AFS may combine information about you that we have with information we obtain from business partners or other companies.

When you register we ask for information such as your name, email address, studio name, mailing address, zip code, website, and reasons for joining. Once you register with AFS and sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us.

AFS uses information for the following general purposes: to customize the advertising and content you see, fulfill your requests for products and services, improve our services, contact you, conduct research, and provide anonymous reporting for partners and service providers.

Personal Information Collected

Log Data. When you use our Service, our servers automatically record information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website, along with data about your usage of the Service. This log data may include information such as your IP address, browser type or the domain from which you are visiting, the web-pages you visit, the search terms you use, and any ads and features on which you click. We may use log data to improve our Service and to customize and enhance your experience with the Service.

Cookies and Similar Technologies. Like many websites, we use “cookie” technology to enable the proper operation of the Service, and to collect additional website usage data to improve the Site and our Service.

Information and Content You Provide. We collect the content, communications and other information you provide when you use the Service, including when you sign up for an account, create or share content, and message or communicate with others.

Third Party Content. We may display third-party content and widgets on the Service, including third-party videos, comment boards, advertising, and social media features such as buttons and embedded posts. Information collected through third-party widgets and buttons is collected directly by these third parties. Please consult such third party’s data collection, use, and disclosure policies for more information.

Information Disclosure and Sharing

AFS does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:

  1. We provide the information to trusted partners who work on behalf of or with AFS under confidentiality agreements. These companies may use your personal information to help AFS communicate with you about offers from AFS and our marketing partners. However, these companies do not have any independent right to share this information. AFS works with vendors, partners, advertisers, and other service providers in different industries and categories of business.

  2. We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims.

  3. We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of AFS's terms of service, or as otherwise required by law.

AFS Communication

We reserve the right to send you certain communications relating to the AFS service, such as service announcements, administrative messages and the AFS Newsletter, that are considered part of your AFS membership, without offering you the opportunity to opt-out of receiving them.

Information Storage and Protection

All data collected related to our Service is stored securely by our website servers, and by our industry-leading data partners including Google, Infusionsoft, MailChimp and SurveyMonkey.

We employ administrative and electronic measures designed to appropriately protect your personal Information against accidental or unlawful destruction, accidental loss, unauthorized alteration, unauthorized disclosure or access, misuse, and any other unlawful form of processing of the personal Information in our possession. Please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. We cannot guarantee that information about you will not be accessed, viewed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our administrative, physical, and electronic safeguards, subject to requirements under applicable law to ensure or warrant information security.

We will make any legally-required disclosures of any breach of the security, confidentiality, or integrity of your unencrypted electronically stored personal Information to you via email or conspicuous posting on our Site in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay, consistent with the legitimate needs of law enforcement, or any measures necessary to determine the scope of the breach and restore the reasonable integrity of the data system, and any other disclosures that may be required under applicable law.

When determining the retention period, we take into account various criteria, such as the type of products and services requested by or provided to you, the nature and length of our relationship with you, possible re-enrollment with our products or services, the impact on the services we provide to you if we delete some information from or about you, mandatory retention periods provided by law and the statute of limitations.

We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide products or services to you or in order to do their jobs.

We have physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to protect personal information about you.

Your Rights and Choices

You may update your communication and account preferences at any time. You may also request data removal by contacting us. Administrative communications are required to maintain access to the Service; however, you may cancel the Service at any time.
