The NSCA National Show this past week in Las Vegas was another event I was proud to take part in.

While the networking and educational sessions and everything in between are always top notch, what always stands out to me with NSCA is the camaraderie, professionalism and pride attendees feel by belonging to such as credible certifying organization.

Do any of these sound familiar?

“I want to get the greatest benefit in the least amount of time.”

“My friend got super fit working out just 15 minutes a day.”

“I just really need someone to kick my butt in the gym.”

These are all sentiments we have heard from clients. Given that clients want to improve their health and fitness as much as they can in the least amount of time, it should be no surprise high-intensity interval training (HIIT) is one of the most popular forms of exercise today.

There a variety of measurements that studio owners can and do use as indicators of success and, surprisingly, some might not be typical key performance indicators (KPIs).  Nevertheless, let’s start with one that’s tried and true.

Traditionally, the fitness facility industry has suffered mightily with Retention hovering in the mid-60% range with several old adages playing out...

You tell your prospects and clients that having a personal trainer will speed up their progress, get them better results and make achieving their goals easier.

The success of your studio depends on your ability to attract clients and then deliver the results they want.  Being an excellent coach or personal trainer is what helps you do that extremely well.

Convention wisdom says that fitness professionals hate sales.  They’re in the training business because they are about people, want to help society, and make an impact in their clients' lives.  If that’s you, if you hate sales, then you either have to figure it out, or try another career, because no business can survive very long without sales.

Some of the best sales people approach sales from a different point of view.  Too often those apprehensive about selling feel as if they're "convincing" someone of something.

The summer months can be tough on a fitness business.  Clients are traveling or have extra commitments with their kids home for the summer, and we do not see them in our classes as often as we  - and they - would like.

A “summer success” strategy will help your clients plan ahead, and your credibility will be enhanced when you provide specific tips for them to maintain fitness over the summer months (even when they aren’t training with you).

For many studios, growth opportunities exist to offer workplace wellness in their surrounding community.

A huge thank you is in order to everyone at the NSCA for going above and beyond to put on an amazing event that was the Ignite Your Personal Training Business Summit. Held at the NSCA headquarters in Colorado Springs, I was honored to be asked to speak.

With a jam packed room of highly attentive attendees, NSCA pulled out all the stops and called in some of the brightest minds in the industry including, Shannon Fable, Joe Drake, Pat Rigsby, Robert Linkul, Lindsay Vastola and myself.

So, you got a website!  Great!  Now what? Your phone isn’t ringing, no one is filling out your contact form, your business isn’t growing.

But you did what you were supposed to, you made a website, what’s wrong? You can’t expect to build a website and, “poof” your business explodes!  The Internet doesn’t work like that.  Before your business can grow, you need more people to come to your site.

Ever heard a fitness pro say, “This 30-minute workout will leave you burning more calories for the rest of the day!?” Does this sound too good to be true?

The concept this fitness professional is getting at is excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), also sometimes referred to as the exercise “afterburn.” It has been described as a major player in weight management and weight loss, as well as a benefit of high-intensity exercise.
