If I could pass along any words of wisdom to studio operators, it would be this: Get out of your studio. Investing all your time inside the walls of your facility is doing you harm.

I say this because sometimes business owners have a tendency to get so caught up in the day-to-day operations that they forget to look ahead and they forget that resources exist to help them improve their business, increase revenue, and serve their clients more effectively.

You’ve finally made the decision to open your own fitness studio.  Congratulations!  By now you have probably spent a bunch of time looking into locations, studio build out, equipment, staff, and so much more.

Now is such a busy and exciting time for you.  But if you are like many new fitness studio owners, you likely haven’t given much thought to bookkeeping.

As a trainer, in addition to providing exercise programming, you're likely answering many nutrition related questions.  You’ve probably been asked, “should I be doing fasted cardio?”

As with most exercise and nutrition related advice, the answer to this question depends on many factors.  In this blog post, you’ll read about the pros and cons of performing fasted exercise, specifically, fasted cardio.  You can then advise your clients on what you think is best for them

When operating a fitness studio, every minute of the day counts. Navigating time management is one of the most important, yet most challenging aspects of ownership. It is a balancing act and we must work on the business as much, if not more than, work in the business if we are to create sustainable growth.

Gone are the golden days of a guaranteed paycheck and paid lunch breaks in the old salaried world you likely once lived in.

If anybody thought new ownership would in any way diminish the awesome annual IDEA World event – those people can think again.  Under the impeccable direction of Active Interest Media (AIM), IDEA World 2017 was, by any standard, a huge success.

Held July 20-23 in Las Vegas, IDEA World featured incredible education, unsurpassed networking, an exhilarating expo, and the seamless melding of fitness, apparel, and nutrition into an amazing event.

The NSCA National Show this past week in Las Vegas was another event I was proud to take part in.

While the networking and educational sessions and everything in between are always top notch, what always stands out to me with NSCA is the camaraderie, professionalism and pride attendees feel by belonging to such as credible certifying organization.

Do any of these sound familiar?

“I want to get the greatest benefit in the least amount of time.”

“My friend got super fit working out just 15 minutes a day.”

“I just really need someone to kick my butt in the gym.”

These are all sentiments we have heard from clients. Given that clients want to improve their health and fitness as much as they can in the least amount of time, it should be no surprise high-intensity interval training (HIIT) is one of the most popular forms of exercise today.

There a variety of measurements that studio owners can and do use as indicators of success and, surprisingly, some might not be typical key performance indicators (KPIs).  Nevertheless, let’s start with one that’s tried and true.

You tell your prospects and clients that having a personal trainer will speed up their progress, get them better results and make achieving their goals easier.

The success of your studio depends on your ability to attract clients and then deliver the results they want.  Being an excellent coach or personal trainer is what helps you do that extremely well.
