IDEA Health & Fitness Association Sold to Media Conglomerate

IDEA, the well-known fitness association and owner of one of the fitness industry’s largest Convention and Trade Shows, has been sold to Active Interest Media (AIM) - one of the world's largest business-to-business media companies. 

AIM produces websites, magazines, films and TV shows, and consumer and trade events.  The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

A Breakthrough in Wellness?

Aetna Inc. will give some customers and employees discounts on Apple Inc.’s smartwatch, offering the potential that incentives from the insurance industry could boost sales of the technology giant’s wearable device.

The health insurer, which covers about 23 million people in the U.S., is developing apps for Apple devices that will help consumers remember to take their medicines, get a refill on prescriptions, or contact a doctor. The applications, which will be available next year, will also help members understand their insurance benefits and use Apple’s Wallet feature to pay bills, Aetna said Tuesday in a statement with Apple.

AFS CEO Josh Leve to Present at NSCA Personal Trainers Conference

(OAKLAND, CA, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, September 29, 2016) – The Association of Fitness Studios (AFS) and the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) have announced that Josh Leve, founder and CEO of AFS will be a featured presenter at next month’s NSCA Personal Trainers Conference.  

The Conference is October 14-16 at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel in Jacksonville, FL. Leve’s presentation, The State of the Fitness Studio Industry, will take place Saturday, October 15 from 8:00 to 8:50 a.m.  This marks the second consecutive year that Leve as presented at this event that annually attracts over 500 personal trainers.

Girl Drowns in Fitness Center Pool

We all hope and pray it doesn’t happen at all, let alone to us, but the reality is – bad stuff can happen.  It did last year to a Midlothian, VA fitness center, where a 9-year-old girl fell into a swimming pool and drowned.

According to the guidelines on the fitness center’s website, there is no lifeguard on duty at the gym.  The guidelines also say "Children 13-and- under require adult supervision; adult must be in wet area at all times."
